The sports car of Pope Francis has come under the hammer. As the auction house Sotheby's in Monaco announced, the car, a Lamborghini Huracán in white and gold, was auctioned last Saturday (12.05.) For an incredible 715,000 euros. As an additional treat Pope Francis had signed the bonnet of the sports car. About the buyer, the auction house announced but nothing.

Incidentally, the Pope never drove the sports car. As the Vatican announced, Pope Francis received the luxury car from Lamborghini last November before his general audience. So the car is new and has not been moved since.

Here are the key data of the car: 610 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 in 2.9 seconds, top speed: 325 km / h.

Our previous message:

On May 12th in Monaco, Pope Francis auctioned his Lamborghini. The 580-PS sports car model Huracan RWD Coupe comes under the hammer, as the auction house Sotheby's announced. The estimated price of the custom-made in a Bianco Monocero coating with gold trim in Giallo Tiberino is 250,000 to 350,000 euros, reported the Kathpress.

Of the proceeds, 70 percent are reported to be in Iraqi Nineveh Reconstruction Projects, including the city of Mosul, which was destroyed by the Islamic State, and the remainder is equally earmarked for projects in Central Africa and for a medical and social aid organization.

Franziskus had received the sports coupe in November from the manufacturer and signed it with the handover with a paint pen. The car was practically new and had not been driven since then, Sotheby's assured. The Pope usually uses a Ford Focus from the Vatican company car fleet. Allegedly, he still owns a Renault R4, built in 1984, also in white.
