World Capital of Sport 2025, Monaco is displaying a series of spectacular floral creations and plant structures.
After Sofia in 2024, Monaco was designated World Capital of Sport 2025 last December. This designation recognizes the Prince's government's proactive policy towards the development and promotion of sport in the Principality. While Monaco is this year's World Capital of Sport, it could almost claim another, more unexpected title: that of world champion of flowers. Alongside the sporting events, the Department of Urban Development (DAU) has orchestrated a veritable floral display in public spaces.
Both a tribute to sport and a horticultural feat, several spectacular plant structures have been installed throughout the Principality. A life-size Formula 1 car, tennis balls, a basketball, two rugby balls, and even gymnastic clubs: all these sporting symbols have been transformed into floral works.
30,000 plants and flowers
Behind these colorful installations, eight employees from the Saint-Laurent d'Eze state nursery sowed, took cuttings, transplanted, and assembled more than 30,000 plants and flowers. The project, which began in late 2024, required 400 hours of work and creativity that matched the challenge.
Displayed in several flowerbeds and accompanied by explanatory panels, these compositions offer a poetic nod to the world of sport, while highlighting the excellence and expertise of the DAU. Another way to showcase Monaco, where even flowers play a key role in the performance game.
