Monaco police step up road checks this August

From Monday 3 August until Sunday 16 August 2026, Monaco’s Public Security Department will be carrying out daily unannounced checks, targeting key roads across the country. In August, the Principality sees increased visitor numbers and entertainment venues experience a high level of activity.

Since late 2025, following an update to the Road Safety Act, officers of the Monaco Public Security Service have been able to carry out unannounced road checks following a reasoned decision by the Minister of State. This can be done without necessarily having observed an offence beforehand.

Consequently, during the festive season or at major events such as the Grand Prix, police officers have carried out random alcohol and drug tests on road users.
