Ponds, fountains, ‘Monacolithe’ and ‘Monérond’: how the valley and Place Sainte-Dévote could be transformed in Monaco

On 14 July, the Prince’s government unveiled the ‘Renaturer la Ville’ study, a vision for the Principality’s landscape and biodiversity, drawn up by Grant Associates. Here we take a closer look at one of the most spectacular projects in this masterplan: the transformation of the Sainte-Dévote valley.

Currently dominated by concrete, roads and railway infrastructure, the Sainte-Dévote valley could well be in for a real facelift. In its ‘Renaturer la Ville’ study, unveiled last July by the Prince’s government, Grant Associates envisages restoring the natural, spectacular and green character of this historic valley. The designers’ guiding principle is clear: to conceal intrusive built infrastructure and reveal the natural flow of water.
