On the sidelines of the town council meeting on 10 September 2026, Xavier Beck, the UDR mayor of Cap-d’Ail, stated that he had given the go-ahead to the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Area to carry out surveys in his town, to determine whether or not the construction of an underpass – an underground passage – is feasible on the Moyenne Corniche, heading towards Nice.

Progress is finally being made on this long-running saga that has been under discussion since 2013! Having been shelved for a time, the proposal put forward by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and Monaco was finally approved in 2022, envisaging “the creation of an underground carriageway heading uphill at the exit of the Rainier III tunnel towards Nice, as well as the widening of the hospital roundabout and the Boulevard du Jardin Exotique”.
