Finance for the Oceans on June 7 and 8 in Monaco

On June 7 and 8, the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF), organized in conjunction with the Nice Ocean Summit, will welcome 1,500 stakeholders from the economic world to Monaco. The objective: to mobilize funds for ocean protection.

Monaco will host the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF) at the Grimaldi Forum on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8. This event is organized by the Prince's Government, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, and the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco. This forum will focus on connecting entrepreneurs and investors to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 14, which is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development. "It is estimated that $175 billion per year would be needed to finance this goal. Currently, only $25 billion is being mobilized," notes Robert Calcagno, Director General of the Oceanographic Institute.

How can we bridge the gap? "We need to demonstrate to these major private players, consumers, and policymakers that the global ocean is an investable market," summarizes Olivier Wenden, Executive Vice President of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. "The blue economy improves the efficiency of maritime transport, aquaculture, and fishing. It protects ecosystems and helps find solutions to combat pollution, particularly plastic waste."
