The Monegasque Athletics Federation (FMA) has obtained the international ISO 20121:2024 certification for the organisation of the Meeting Herculis and Monaco Run. This prestigious recognition marks nearly three years of dedicated efforts to make sporting events more responsible and sustainable.
International Recognition for Two Major Sporting Events
The Monegasque Athletics Federation has reached another important milestone in its commitment to sustainable development.
Meeting Herculis, a prominent fixture on the international athletics calendar, and Monaco Run are now supported by a responsible event management system certified by Bureau Veritas in accordance with the international ISO 20121:2024 standard.
The certification recognises the efforts undertaken by the Federation’s teams since winter 2023 to improve organisational practices and further integrate environmental, social and economic considerations.
Three Years of Work Towards More Sustainable Events
The certification is the result of an extensive process carried out in collaboration with several Monaco-based consulting firms, with support from the Mission for Energy Transition and guidance from the consultancy ARIMA.
The objective was to establish a structured approach that takes greater account of the impacts of sporting events, from initial planning through to their implementation.
These improvements particularly concern resource management, cooperation with partners, procurement practices and the integration of sustainability principles into organisational decision-making.
A Demanding Certification Based on International Standards
Revised in 2024, ISO 20121 provides an internationally recognised framework for responsible event management.
The standard places particular emphasis on organisational governance, stakeholder engagement and responsibility throughout the supply chain.
Going beyond isolated environmental initiatives, the certification confirms the existence of a comprehensive, structured and long-term management system that incorporates sustainability considerations into the organisation of Meeting Herculis and Monaco Run.
It also highlights the Federation’s determination to make environmental and social responsibility an integral part of its sporting events.
Prince Albert II Marks an Important Milestone
As President of the Monegasque Athletics Federation, Prince Albert II received the international certification, marking a significant step forward in the organisation’s development.
For the Federation, this recognition is not an endpoint but the beginning of a new phase.
The aim is to continue the initiatives already undertaken, strengthen cooperation with partners and permanently embed the principles of responsible management into the planning and delivery of its events.
Monaco Strengthens Its Commitment to Responsible Sport
With this certification, Monaco reinforces its ambition to combine sporting excellence with sustainable development.
Meeting Herculis and Monaco Run demonstrate an approach to sporting event management that brings together international prestige, high organisational standards and environmental responsibility.
The recognition also sends a positive signal for the future of major sporting events in the Principality, where sporting excellence and sustainability are increasingly expected to go hand in hand.
