The Principality of Monaco has begun construction of a new 2,500 m² platform in Port Hercule. This strategically important expansion is designed to meet Formula 1’s growing requirements, with completion scheduled ahead of the 2027 Monaco Grand Prix. The new infrastructure will also accommodate other major events.
A New Platform Opposite La Rascasse
The Princely Government has confirmed the start of expansion works at the southern section of Port Hercule, directly opposite the famous La Rascasse corner.
The project involves constructing a concrete platform covering approximately 2,500 m², supported by piles anchored into the harbour seabed.
The new infrastructure will provide additional space for the technical and logistical facilities required for the Monaco Grand Prix, while also offering extra capacity for other events held in the Principality.
A Strategic Investment in the Future of Formula 1
The objective is clear: to secure the long-term future of the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix by adapting its infrastructure to the increasingly demanding requirements of the championship.
The platform is scheduled for completion in time for the 2027 Monaco Grand Prix.
This expansion will complement the additional space made available along Quai Antoine-Ier in spring 2026, following the demolition of the former International School of Monaco building.
These areas will allow for an extension of the paddock facilities and improve the space available to Formula 1 teams.
Construction Works Designed to Minimise Disruption
The construction project, which is now getting underway, will be carried out primarily from the sea.
Deliveries by road will be restricted to a limited logistics area along the quayside. This approach is intended to reduce disturbance to local residents and minimise disruption to events taking place in the harbour area.
The project has already required some adjustments to the organisation of Monaco’s traditional funfair.
Temporary Relocation of Numerous Boats
The expansion of the southern harbour area will also bring changes to the allocation and use of mooring spaces.
During construction, boats belonging to approximately 100 recreational boat owners holding annual contracts will need to be temporarily relocated.
The Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco (SEPM), which operates Monaco’s ports, has already begun contacting the affected owners to coordinate the necessary arrangements.
Once construction is completed, approximately 30 boat owners will be offered new berths within Monaco’s ports.
Monaco Prepares for the Future of Its Grand Prix
With the expansion of Port Hercule, the Principality continues to modernise its infrastructure while strengthening the future of one of its most prestigious international sporting events.
Beyond Formula 1’s requirements, the new platform will provide additional capacity for major international events.
The project highlights Monaco’s commitment to combining its rich motorsport heritage with modern infrastructure and international appeal.
