Pope Leo XIV could make a (brief) visit to Monaco as early as March, according to the Vatican; the Prince's Palace remains cautious.

A plan is reportedly under consideration for a one-day visit by the Pope to the Principality at the end of March, according to AFP. The Prince's Palace confirms an invitation from Prince Albert II to the Pope, but no date has yet been set.

Pope Leo XIV could make a lightning visit to Monaco "at the end of March," according to a plan currently under consideration, AFP learned Tuesday from the Vatican press office.

According to this plan, the American Pope, invited by Prince Albert II, would travel back and forth between the Vatican and the Principality in a single day, the same source specified.

This would be the first papal visit to Monaco in modern times, as no pontiff has traveled there since the beginning of apostolic journeys in the 1960s.

The Prince's Palace is taking this announcement in stride.

When contacted, the Prince's Palace remained more reserved. No official date for the Pope's visit has yet been set; "it could be late March, April, or June." The Palace is awaiting official confirmation from the Vatican before making any announcement, which it has not yet received.
