Alert of a new scam in Monaco involving calls or messages from high-ranking officials
The Public Security Directorate is calling for the utmost vigilance this Wednesday evening, as individuals have been using a "sophisticated" method via text messages, WhatsApp, and emails in recent days to try to extort money from you.
"For several days, malicious individuals have been impersonating high-ranking officials in the Principality and attempting to contact their personal contacts, company directors, or senior officials, particularly by email, text message, or video conference using applications such as WhatsApp," the Prince's government warned this Wednesday evening. "An elaborate set-up"
"The method of operation is elaborate. Documents bearing the letterhead of official Monaco organizations and apparently signed by their managers may be transmitted, and calls may also display the switchboard number of these organizations. The purpose of the set-up is to obtain, under the pretext of resolving an urgent financial problem, transfers of funds to bank accounts opened abroad."
The Public Security Directorate urges the utmost vigilance and asks you to contact the Judicial Police Division in the event of such requests:
