Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene travelled to Oslo to offer their condolences to the Norwegian royal family at the funeral of King Harald V, who passed away on 28 August. In the Principality, flags were flown at half-mast throughout the day.

A final tribute to Europe’s longest-reigning monarch, the funeral of King Harald V of Norway, held this Wednesday in Oslo, brought together the international elite to honour Haakon VIII, the new king, and his family.

Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène also made the journey to pay their respects to the late king, whom they had met on several occasions. One such occasion was in 2022, when they were received in Oslo by the entire royal family, accompanied by their children, Crown Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella.

Before flying to Oslo, the Sovereign had ordered that the flags at the Prince’s Palace and on public buildings be flown at half-mast on Wednesday 9 September until 8.00 pm, “as a mark of the solidarity and friendship that unite the Kingdom of Norway and the Principality, as well as the commitment to the historical and diplomatic ties that bring them together”, the Prince’s Palace announced.
