The reigning Formula E world champion moves up to second place in the 2026 Monaco E-Prix standings

Having finished a disappointing 15th in Race 1 just 24 hours earlier, Oliver Rowland (Nissan), the 2025 Formula E World Champion and winner at the foot of the Rock last year, dominated the second race of the Monaco E-Prix on Sunday.
Same again? Not a chance! In fine form the day before, Nyck de Vries and his Mahindra had put on a masterclass to win the first high-octane sprint of the Monaco weekend.

This Sunday, the same generous sunshine, the same scorching track… but no repeat performance. A victim of Formula E’s glorious unpredictability, the Dutchman, suddenly “lacking grip and feel”, came crashing down: a modest 15th in the morning’s pole hunt before scraping together the 2 points for 9th place four hours later.

His successor on the Monaco E-Prix podium? Oliver Rowland. Hello, he’s back! Often in the mix but never a winner since the start of this 12th season, the British driver, the reigning world champion, has finally managed to get back on the scoreboard.

Having qualified poorly the day before (12th), the driver of the number 1 Nissan had finished Day 1 empty-handed (15th). A response was therefore needed to avoid slipping down the overall standings, where he was provisionally fourth on arrival here. Mission accomplished with flying colours.

With all eyes on him heading into Sunday, last year’s Saturday winner in the Principality started by getting his head above water early on in the all-out lap session – yes, yes, a qualifying lap without lifting off the throttle still exists… and that’s how it’s done in FE these days! – where he secured a spot on the fourth row (8th).

Whilst all eyes were on the unpredictable Dan Ticktum (Cupra Kiro), the new track record holder in 100% electric mode after snatching pole position yet again, Rowland managed his energy with the prudence of a responsible parent amidst the chaos of the race’s opening stages, which saw several heavyweights take a tumble.
